Particle Identification Using De/dx in the Mark Ii Detector at the Slc*
نویسنده
چکیده
The central drift chamber in the Mark II detector at the SLAC Linear Collider has been instrumented with loo-MHz Flash-ADCs. Pulse digitization provides particle identification through the measurement of average ionization loss in the chamber. We present the results of a study of system performance and outline the systematic corrections that optimize resolution. The data used are from a short test run at PEP with one-third of the FADCs installed and an extensive cosmic ray sample with the fully instrumented chamber. Study of Hadronic Final States of 2 Boson Decays
We have studied hadronic final states produced in the decays of 2 bosons using the Mark II detector at SLC. We have measured the distributions of global shape parameters, inclusive charged particle distributions, charge particle multiplicity and jet multiplicity. The results are compared to predictions of QCD-based models optimized at the PEP energy. The data and models agree within -the presen...
متن کاملA Review of Trigger and On-line Processors at Slac*
This paper begins in Section 2 by briefly describing the role of trigger processors in the e+econtext. The usual flow of the trigger decision process is illustrated with selected examples of SLAC trigger processing. The examples discussed are the energy trigger of the ASP detector and the charged particle triggers of the Mark III and Mark II detectors. Section 3 sketches the features of trigger...
متن کاملBeam-loss Monitors Tn the Slc Final Focus'
Beam-loss monitors in the SLC Final Focus System &e used for protection of accelerator and detector components, optimizing adjustment of beam halo collimators, and as diagnostics of beam size and halo. Construction of a variety of monitors based on discrete ion chambers, proportional tubes, continuous 'ion chambers, and signals from the Mark II detector is reported. The interfaces to the SLC co...
متن کاملRetractable Carbon Fibre Targets for Measuring Beam Profiles at the SLC Collision Point*
. Retractable targets of carbon fibres with nominal diameters 30, 7 and 4.5 micron have been in use at the collision point of the SLC (the SLAC Linear Collider). The target mechanism is compatible with the Mark II detector now in place at the collision point. Beam profiles are measured in horizontal and vertical axes by using magnetic dipoles to scan the beams across the fibres. Two signal dete...
متن کاملdE/dx PROTOTYPE TEST*
A small prototype of a multiwire dE/dx detector was tested in SLAC's test beam. The basic concept of the detector was similar to the JADE drift cell design. The purpose of the test was to decide on some design parameters for a full size prototype, which is now in construction. Introduction Our motivation was to concentrate on the particle identification below 4 GeV/c which is about the limit of...
